Cynthia and I had visitors from the States yesterday afternoon. In the short time that we had together we had lunch in town, went to the orchid conservatory, visited a young sloth and their people “parents,” and took a tour of our house.
By far the most remarkable event of the afternoon, other than our extreme enjoyment of seeing dear friends, was going to a private home in El Valle to visit with Sammie, a young female sloth. Sammie’s mother was accidentally electrocuted while traversing a public power line.
In case you are wondering, the “parents” have all requisite permits and permissions from the Panamanian government to keep her. In fact they are not allowed to return her to the wild as she was very young when she was orphaned and wouldn’t know how to survive on her own.
Sammie is just as gentle as can be and always seems to be smiling. We all thought that her hair would be coarse, but were surprised to find it soft and silky.
Here are some photos and a short video of Sammie. Enjoy:

That’s all for now, more soon.
